Textures and Colours from Morocco

20 Jul

Mosaic Finish around a water spout in Casablanca

If I had to sum the photographs from up our recent trip to Morocco in one word, it would be…. Texture.

From the tranquil Riad we lived in, to the train station we traveled through and the mosques we prayed in. Morocco’s signature mosaic tiling is everywhere. Below are a few photographs of the colours and intricate mosaic tiling.

Drive-by-shooting: Lenso Eagle Alloys

31 Jan

Part of my daily work involves photographing various products for the Autostyle.co.za website.  This gives me access to thousands of automotive accessories, occasionally I try to take a few creative shots, like this one.

The Lenso Eagle alloy wheel has somewhat of a cult like status with automotive enthusiasts, its been in production for nearly a decade and always in demand. Heres a little close-up shot of the spokes, wheel dish and some selective coloring and dodging.

Photo’s from the top of Mount Moosa

3 Sep

sunrise at the top of mount moosa

Decided to go through some past images from our trip to Egypt  earlier this year.  The images in this post were taken at the top of Mount Moosa (Jabel Moosa) in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. Also known as Mount Sinai, Mount Horeb, Mount Musa, Jabal Musa. You can read more about this over at Wikipedia

It was quite an adventure getting to the top which starts with a 2 hour taxi drive at midnight. Then at about 2:30am, armed with a flashlight and light snacks you begin your hike to the top and push along to make it in time to witness the sunrise from the peak. Don’t expect to have any spiritual awakening here as you are joined with about 100+ tourists and dozens of Egyptian traders trying to sell you snacks and stones. Nevertheless, a tremendous experience and great photo opportunity.

Love & Friendship Arabic Coaster

1 Sep

Continuing on my daily photo project.  Unfortunately I left my tripod at the office and decided to get a bit creative with a photo for today.

This is a coaster which we purchased from a crafts store in Cairo (Korba district).  The image was shot on a kitchen counter-top in total darkness over a very long exposure.  I used a torch to paint some light over to bring out the wood.  Final touch up in photoshop involved cropping and overlaying a duplicate layer (screen blend)

Technical details: F/8 at 13seconds. ISO 100 & 47mm focal length

If reading Arabic calligraphy is tricky, the text reads Hubb wa Mawaddah (Love & Friendship)
