MyUmmah.co.za Relaunched

As mentioned a few days ago, i’v relaunched MyUmmah.co.za

This time round, I’m using wordpress mostly as an online archive for various Islamic resources that i come across online. My logic says, no point saving it in MyDocuments, rather make it available online, perhaps someone could be looking for similar resources. Looks like i was right as 52% of my visitors come from Google searches!

This is the rundown of what i used on MyUmmah.co.za

- All of these Plugins where found and downloaded from the Official WordPress Plugin repository – Hence pretty safe & secure. I have all of them stored on my pc so if you have trouble downloading, don’t hesitate to request them.

• Site is obviously using WordPress, the hosted one on my own server & domain.
• Akismet - this is a nobrainer, the ultimate in Spam control, anyone who blogs or uses blogging platforms knows of the thousands of annoying spam.
• All-In-One-SEO-Pack – SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the heart of any website, this nifty wordpress plugin takes away all the gritty work associated with this skill. At a glance you’r able to assign keywords, page titles, meta & also re-arranges you page titles to correct web standards.
• CFormsII – The cream of the crop with Contact Forms, features an ajax based webform for uses to contact you. As well as control on any type of form you could add on.
• Google XML Sitemaps - This plugin basically writes a sitemap for your wordpress site aiming for major search engines (eg. Google, Ask.com, Yahoo, etc)
• My Category Order - A nifty administrator plugin which allows you to set your own category order. By default wordpress arranges them alphabetically, in the case of MyUmmah, i wanted to have them in my own order. This plugin delivered just that!
• NextGen Gallery – The slickest & easiest to use Photogallery for wordpress. Features a lightbox style phototransition (basically dims your website while enlarging the picture) – Tons of customising options including slideshows, image resizing, transitions, watermarks etc.
• WordPress.com Stats - This is a website stats plugin which is hosted at WordPress.com (free, but you’ll have to register) – Gives you short and concise web statistics. Not as indepth as Google Analytics (also installed) but gives a quick and easy stats page.
• WP-Cache – This plugin greatly improves the loading time and speed of your wordpress site. Excellant for high traffic blogs. While MyUmmah is still low on visits (about 30 to 50 a day) I’m sure this plugin will prove itself in the future.
• WP-Youtube – No wordpress site is complete without the ability to embed Youtube videos, this plugin does just that. Also gives a cool custom color surrounding frame as well as the ability to resize & add your own tags.
• Theme is supplied by: AskGraphics.com

There you have it, the anatomy of a wordpress website. However, all of the above means nothing without content. So far, with the Almighty’s blessing, i’v managed to rack up 66 posts in 65 days which have resulted it in being in the Top 10 busiest Religion Blogs according to Amatomu.com
